Sistema Oleg's Bat House
Bavaro, Dominican Republic
This cave is in the Bavaro area and is a 30-40 minute drive on dirt roads, you will need local knowledge to get there as the cave is in a drivable but in a very remote area.
The landowners have converted the main entrance into a show cave and now a oak staircase leads to a viewing platform and to the water.
The mainline starts just underneath the main viewing platform.
This cave has geological features unique on the island, striated rock walls, very alien looking walls and tunnels with potholed ceilings that look like someone was using a giant drill bit when the cave was dry (please see pics as a description of this cave is extremely difficult).
The amount of life found in this cave is unprecedented, there are millions of cave adapted shrimp, worms, snails and other troglodyte fauna, and diving here feels like a cave version of a lively ocean reef community.
